Police contacted Cartwright by phone, and he agreed to speak with officers at the department. There, the affidavit said he told investigators that a female acquaintance claimed the man had struck her cousin in the face.
Cartwright said he left a campus party to confront the man on Aggie Road, after which he invoked his Fifth Amendment rights and refused to answer further questions. Investigators noted in the affidavit that they observed injuries on Cartwright’s hand consistent with a physical altercation.
The Craighead County Detention Center roster shows Cartwright was arrested at 4:58 a.m.
On Nov. 2, Cartwright appeared before District Judge David Boling, who found probable cause to charge Cartwright with second-degree battery, a class D felony. Cartwright was given a $100,000 cash/surety bond and ordered to have no contact with the man.
The roster shows Cartwright was released from the detention center at 7:58 p.m. the same day as his hearing. His next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 16.
