Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – May 13, 2024 – The Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library Director Vanessa Adams told JRN that Board Member Mark Nichols resigned from the CCJPL Board last week.

Nichols’ resignation was turned in to Adams on Thursday and was effective “immediately.”

Adams said the CCJPL Board will hold their quarterly meeting tonight, May 13, and Nichols “will not be present.”

According to the Library’s website, the Board meets on the 2nd Monday in February, May, August, and November. The Crowley’s Ridge Regional Library Board meets at 5:00 (CRRL Agenda) and the Craighead County Jonesboro Public Library Board meeting is at 5:30 (CCJPL Agenda).

Nichols was a member of both.

Adams told JRN that Nichols was appointed in 2020 by County Judge Marvin Day.

Day also appointed Board Member Janice Griffin. Griffin has sat on the board for two 5-year terms, tonight will be her last meeting after 10 years of service.

Currently, the County Judge appoints 4 members of the Board, while the Mayor of Jonesboro appoints 3 members. There has been discussion to change this agreement to 2 appointees by the Judge and 5 by the Mayor, 4 by the Judge and 5 by the Mayor, or some other agreement.

According to Adams, the library’s funding comes from approximately 75% city funds and 25% county funds.

Adams hopes to have the vacant Board member positions filled by the next meeting in August, “It’s been done before. Sometimes it takes a little longer, but it would be nice to have a full Board by August.”
