Jonesboro, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – Organizers are looking for volunteers as they prepare for the 30th year of the Jonesboro Community Thanksgiving Meal.
The meal, served on Thanksgiving Day, drew around 2,500 diners last year. Diners from all walks of life are invited for to spend the morning enjoying a hot Thanksgiving meal and fellowship. In addition, The Rock Jonesboro will have blankets and coats to give to those in need.
“It’s just fun to see the people from year to year,” said event organizer Barbara Sanders. “Whoever’s hungry or lonely that day, that’s where they just need to go.”

Even though people are invited to dine in, the meal also offers a delivery service. Orders are limited to six meals per address, unless an explanation for the larger number of meals needed is emailed to jonesborocommunitythanksgiving@gmail.com. Deliveries are also limited to Jonesboro addresses.
Sign up for delivery remains open through Nov. 24, and will close once organizers hit capacity at 1,700 meals. Click here for online registration.
Volunteers are needed to help with deliveries, fill food trays, wash dishes, sitting and speaking with diners who do not have anyone to eat with, and other tasks. Those interested in volunteering do not need to sign up, they just need to show up at the event at 9:30 a.m.

Desserts are also needed. While local churches and businesses supply the food and turkey, Sanders said the meal needs donations of non-refrigerated desserts. They can be store bought or homemade but must be in disposable containers.
Diners can also call in meals using two different numbers. People can call 870-790-0624 before Wednesday, Nov. 25 at noon to call in meals. If calling on Thanksgiving Day, call 870-336-2358.
The Jonesboro Community Thanksgiving Meal is set for Thursday, Nov. 26 (Thanksgiving Day) from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., or until food runs out, in the St. Bernards Auditorium, located at 505 E. Washington Ave.
