Jonesboro, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – The Jonesboro Police Department’s (JPD) chief was honored during Tuesday’s city council meeting for saving a resident’s life.
During the meeting, Mayor Harold Copenhaver presented the Life Saver Award to JPD Chief Rick Elliott for his actions in saving a woman who was choking.

According to the mayor, on July 10, Elliott responded to the incident in which the woman had stopped breathing. He used the Heimlich maneuver, which dislodged the obstruction and restored her ability to breathe.
“He did it in a humble way. He didn’t talk about it; he didn’t let people know,” Copenhaver said of Elliott’s actions. “But people find out about good deeds when people do good deeds.”
Copenhaver thanked Elliott for his “professionalism and service to the community.” When Elliott received the award, he was given a standing ovation by those in attendance.
