Jonesboro, AR – Contributed – Arkansas State (2-4-2, 0-2-0 SBC) soccer, despite an aggressive attack to bookend the match, fell short in a 1-0 match to Southern Miss (4-3-2, 1-1-0 SBC) Thursday afternoon at the A-State Soccer Complex.
A-State began with a volley of five shots in just the first 15 minutes, two on target needing the save. Four corners in the front half also led many opportunities for the Red Wolves, none leading to a shot. Southern Miss found the net in the 33rd minute off of a deep throw in.

A slow start out of half, defensive stops by Leigha Dobbins and Freya Sinclair stifled any Golden Eagle advantage. Both sides blitzed through the midfield, swinging the ball from box to box with chance shots by both squads throughout the second half.
In the waning minutes, a Southern Miss yellow card set up a Red Wolf attack, which the home side used to keep up the pressure in the final minutes to the final whistle, no equalizer found.
A-State hits the road for a matchup at ULM on Sunday, Sept. 27, with first kick timed to 1 p.m.
