Set 1

The Red Wolves broke a 10-10 tie with kills from Collum and Calea Bush while an attack error extended the lead to three. The opposition battled back and eventually used a 4-0 run to take a 19-18 advantage, but both sides alternated the following seven points. Whitlock broke the trend by following Bush’s fourth kill of the match with one of her own and gave A-State a two-point lead entering set point.

Troy cut the margin in half before Collum’s kill shut the door on extra points via a 25-23 decision.

Set 2

Both sides remained competitive early in the second set, but a 5-1 run allowed A-State to enter the technical timeout ahead 15-10. Two kills from Madigan bookended a block for Glunz and Whitlock, culminating in a 19-11 advantage. Two errors briefly disrupted momentum, but Whitlock and Lewis negated the points via kills that sparked the Scarlet & Black to a 25-16 win in the second set.

Set 3

Troy took five of the first six points, but the deficit was nearly erased on a 3-0 run highlighted by Maloney’s service ace. A-State trailed throughout the set and did not hold the lead until a solo block from Lewis made the score 16-15. Both sides remained within one point of a tie until the 45th rally, when a kill followed by a service ace moved Troy ahead 24-22. Whitlock narrowed the gap to one point in the ensuing rally, but extra points would be avoided once again as the match entered a fourth set.

Set 4

Lewis landed a kill and teamed up with Bush for a block while Madigan’s solo block in the ensuing rally was followed by a pair of aces from Glunz, creating a 12-6 lead. Troy narrowed the gap to three points midway through the set, but Whitlock’s 10th kill of the night sent the contest into a technical timeout, and the Red Wolves began to pull away beyond that point. The advantage swelled to 21-13 following attack and set errors, and both sides traded points the rest of the way until a service error gave A-State the set and the match.
