Jonesboro, AR – Contributed – Kaitlin Whitlock’s standout performance powered Arkansas State volleyball (5-7, 1-0 SBC) to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-13) win over ULM (5-9, 0-1 SBC) on Thursday night inside First National Bank Arena.

Whitlock secured her fourth double-double of the season with 11 kills on a .500 attack percentage and 16 digs. Addison Collum matched Whitlock’s team high in kills and Erin Madigan led with 25 assists while Mia Maloney tallied 18 digs. Calea Bush and Haley Glunz locked down the middle and recorded six blocks apiece.

As a team, A-State delivered 44 kills on a .271 clip and posted 55 digs alongside 13 total blocks.

Set 1

The Red Wolves moved ahead 10-3 on Madigan’s first kill of the match and did not look back. The advantage grew to 19-10 following a 3-0 run for the Red Wolves, and a kill by Adison Ozuna plus an attack error extended the lead to double digits seven rallies later. Whitlock added two more kills to complete a set-ending 4-0 run.

Set 2

The Warhawks jumped out to a 3-0 advantage, but A-State immediately responded with five consecutive points in what would become a hotly contested second set. ULM tied the score at 5-5 and neither side gained an advantage larger than one point until the 38th rally. Whitlock delivered a kill and Madigan landed an ace to break an 18-18 tie and sparked a 4-0 run.

The Red Wolves maintained the advantage beyond that point, and block assists for Bush and Collum secured a 25-20 decision and a 2-0 lead in the match.

Set 3

A-State mounted a 7-0 run after surrendering the first two rallies and set the tone for the remainder of the match. ULM chipped away at a 14-6 score with four consecutive points, but Whitlock ended the stretch and sparked a 6-0 run capped by Madigan’s second ace of the contest. The Red Wolves surrendered three more rallies beyond that point and secured the final set by a score of 25-13.

A-State concludes the series against ULM on Sept. 25 inside First National Bank Arena. The match is scheduled for 6 p.m. and tickets can be purchased by clicking here.
