Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – On May 10, Jonesboro police officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance on Cartwright Street. Dispatch told officers that a juvenile called 911, saying that his stepfather was hurting his mother and that “he does not want to die.”

According to the probable cause affidavit, when officers arrived, they noticed a vehicle, driven by 33-year-old Jushaun Demadre Northern, leaving the area. Due to the severity of the call, officers met with Northern.

Northern, sweating profusely, told officers that he was the “wrong person”. They asked where he was coming from, and he pointed to a set of apartments nearby, specifying which one he lived in. As the apartment he pointed out was the same one associated with the 911 call, officers instructed Northern to exit the vehicle. He refused and began arguing with officers, then he sped off.

Officers pursued Northern and noticed him running stop signs and driving at high speeds. Eventually, Northern turned onto a residential street, stopped, and surrendered to officers. He was taken into custody at 3 a.m., according to the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office jail roster.

Additional officers met with the victim, who stated that her ex-boyfriend, Northern, attacked her.

The affidavit stated that the victim was hosting a Mother’s Day party at her home when Northern arrived. The victim said that other people there were asleep, and believed it may have been friends who arrived. However, when she answered the door, it was Northern.

When the victim asked Northern why he was there, he said that it was “his house.” He then forced the door open, grabbed the victim, and dragged her upstairs. The victim said Northern took her phone and demanded her password. She attempted to enter it but failed, and Northern struck her in the face.

The victim’s son soon woke up due to the disturbance, and the victim could hear him crying. The victim asked Northern if she could check on her son, and he briefly released her.

Upon entering the son’s room, the victim instructed him to call the police. Shortly after, Northern entered the room and dragged the victim back into her bedroom. While there, the child could be heard calling for his mother through the door.

The victim was released again and returned to the son. During this time, Northern was heard asking where the victim’s car keys were. On the way out, Northern took the victim’s and the child’s phones and the keys.

The affidavit noted that Northern was driving on a suspended driver’s license. The victim was also found to have scratches to her face and a cut lip.

The next day, Northern appeared before District Judge Tommy Fowler, who found probable cause to charge him with multiple offenses:

  • Aggravated residential burglary (Class A felony)
  • Third-degree domestic battery (Class A misdemeanor)
  • Theft of a vehicle valued at less than $25,000 but greater than $5,000 (Class C felony)
  • Theft $1,000 or less – all others (Class A misdemeanor)
  • Fleeing (Class D felony)
  • Driving while license is canceled, suspended, or revoked (Misdemeanor)
  • No proof of liability insurance (Misdemeanor)
  • First-degree interference with emergency communication (Class A misdemeanor)
  • Obstructing governmental operations/obstructs, impairs, hinders (Class C misdemeanor)
  • Ran stop sign (Unclassified misdemeanor)

In addition to the $150,000 bond, Northern must have no contact with the victim and wear a GPS ankle monitor upon release.

Northern’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 26. If convicted on all charges, he faces up to 45 years in prison and fines totaling $37,000.
