Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – June 12, 2024 – A 90-year-old Jonesboro man is one of the latest victims of a scam.
He got a call, supposedly, from Capital One and he was told that someone in Germany had accessed his credit card info and wired money to someone else through Western Union.
The victim told the caller that he did not authorize this transfer. The “representative” then convinced him to buy $4000 in Nordstrom gift cards, and give the caller the numbers off of the cards in order to cover the transfer.
The man told police that he bought the cards as he was instructed and gave the numbers to the caller, who then advised him to shred the cards.
At this point, the victim determined that he should contact his credit card company himself, which is when he learned that this was a scam.
