Monty Lynn Martin, a beloved figure in his community and a retired police officer, passed away on June 10, 2024, at the age of 63. Born on June 25, 1960, to RA “Tootie” and Geneva Martin. Monty’s life was marked by his dedication to public service, his big-hearted nature, and his love for his family. After graduating from Paragould High School in 1978, Monty immediately set out to pursue his passion for law enforcement. He joined the Paragould Police Department in 1984, where he dedicated 25 years of his life to serving and protecting the community he so cherished. Monty retired in 2009 from the Police Department, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, bravery, and an unwavering commitment to the citizens of Paragould. Monty received numerous commendations during his time as a police officer. He continued to serve as a code enforcement officer until his official retirement from the city in 2012. Those who knew Monty will fondly remember him for his wonderful sense of humor. Monty was affectionately known as “Peepaw” to his adored grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye. His role as a grandfather was one, he embraced with all the love in his heart. An animal lover through and through. One of Monty’s most treasured pastimes was being near the water, especially the beach.
Monty is preceded in death by his parents RA “Tootie” and Geneva Martin; sister-in-law, Carolyn Martin; brother- in -law, Michael Easton.
Survivors include his sons, Heath (Alicia) Martin, Patrick (Jennifer) Martin, and Seth Martin; stepson, Andrew Breckenridge; brother, Larry Martin; sisters, Freda Easton and Mary (Roger) Slayton; six grandchildren, and former wife and good friend Amy Martin.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 14, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Friday, June 14 at 1:00 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with Tracy Archibald officiating, burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens.
Seth Martin, Patrick Martin, Brandon Cooper, Roger Slayton, Matthew Martin, and Cameron Cooper will serve as pallbearers. The Paragould Police Department will serve as honorary pallbearers.
