Jonesboro, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – A Jonesboro man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to an assault that left a victim with serious facial fractures last month.

Guy Anthony Moreno, 31, appeared before Circuit Judge Scott Ellington in the Craighead County Circuit Court on Monday, where he entered a negotiated plea of guilty to one count of second-degree battery, a class D felony.

Court documents show that Moreno was sentenced to 36 months in the Arkansas Division of Correction with credit for 29 days of jail time already served. He also received an additional 36-month suspended imposition of sentence. A secondary misdemeanor charge of fleeing on foot was dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

The charges stem from a Sept. 27 incident at a home in the 2500 block of Viking Street.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Moreno attacked a victim unprovoked, striking him twice with a beer bottle. The second strike shattered the bottle and knocked the victim to the ground, where Moreno then stomped on his head and abdomen and punched him in the face multiple times. The victim suffered a cut to the face, large contusions on his head, and fractures to his nose and eye socket.

According to a probation order filed on Monday, Moreno must comply with several special conditions. He is required to complete anger management classes, undergo a substance abuse assessment within 90 days, and enroll in a course to obtain a GED. He is also ordered to have no contact with the victim.
