Troy, AL – Contributed – Arkansas State (3-8-4, 1-6-2 SBC) struck first, but a pair of second half goals gave Troy (4-9-4, 3-4-2 SBC) the Sunday afternoon win at the Troy Soccer Complex.

The Red Wolves offense was aggressive and set the Trojans on their back heel throughout the front half of the game. A defensive lapse and lazy pass led to a takeaway by freshman Avery Raney in the attacking third, where she skipped the ball into the box and found Kennedy Horn, who lined up a clear shot to take the lead with her sixth goal of the season in the 34th minute. Raney’s assist is her second on the season after scoring her first point against Central Arkansas (Aug. 23).

A scrum in the box early in the second half, Troy found the equalizer and carried that momentum into the next few minutes, where they found their next opportunity with a corner in the 53rd minute. The set piece goal gave the home side the advantage. A-State fired off six shots in the final 20 minute to pressure the Trojan defense, but were unable to match the opposition.

Arkansas State returns home for the regular season finale against Louisiana on Sunday, Nov. 1, with kickoff timed to 1 p.m.
