Statesboro, GA – (Contributed) – Senior guard Jalen Hampton posted his second double-double of the 2025-26 campaign and led Arkansas State men’s basketball (13-7, 5-3 SBC) to an impressive 85-68 win at Georgia Southern (13-8, 5-3 SBC) on Thursday night inside the Jack and Ruth Ann Hill Convocation Center.
Joey Chammaa led the team with 15 points while Christian Harmon (13), TJ Caldwell (13), Jaxon Ellingsworth (13) and Jalen Hampton (10) also reached double figures. Hampton recorded a team-leading 14 rebounds to set a new season high and Aly Tounkara was not far behind with 11 in the matchup.
Chammaa also led the team with a career-high six assists.
As a team the Red Wolves shot 28-for-57 (49.1 percent) from the field, including a 10-for-26 (38.5 percent) clip from three-point range, and 19-for-23 (82.6 percent) from the free-throw line. A-State held a 42-38 advantage on the boards and dished 18 assists compared to five for the opposition.
A three-pointer from Chandler Jackson pushed the Red Wolves ahead 13-7 and Caldwell countered the Eagles’ response with one of his own to make the score 16-10 at the 13:49 mark. A 9-0 run for the opposition spanned the next 3:44, creating a brief three-point deficit before a 9-2 run highlighted by Caldwell’s back-to-back makes from beyond the arc gave A-State a 25-21 advantage.
Georgia Southern outscored A-State 10-6 and tied the game, but a jumper from Ellingsworth created a two-point lead in the final minutes of the first half. Harmon contributed with five points and Chammaa added two more to make the score 39-32, but the Eagles would get the last points of the half as the Scarlet and Black entered intermission with a four-point lead.
Both sides exchanged baskets to open the second half before Harmon and Jackson bookended a 12-0 run with three-pointers. Eight of the next 12 points fell in the opposition’s favor, but the offensive surge resumed when Chammaa converted a three-point play.
Royal Blue Smith netted a shot from beyond the arc and Chammaa capped a 10-2 scoring stretch with a layup to create a 65-45 lead with 11:42 to go.
The Eagles attempted to chip away at the advantage, closing the gap to 17 at the 7:40 mark before a three-point play from Chudi Dioramma stonewalled the comeback bid. Hampton scored the next four points and Dioramma registered another three-point play to make the score 83-58, the largest lead of the game.
A-State surrendered a 10-2 run over the final 3:43, but it would not make a difference as the Red Wolves snapped a two-game losing streak.
