Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – A conversation with police quickly escalated after Jonesboro police said a man ran away from the police station, leading to him being found in another person’s home in hiding.
District Judge David Boling found probable cause Nov. 3 to charge 28-year-old Devonte Lamont Jones with fleeing, aggravated residential burglary, and resisting arrest. The charges stem from his Nov. 1 arrest, when officers met Jones at the Jonesboro Police Department about an earlier incident.
According to the affidavit, officers requested Jones’ identification. While speaking with him, Jones suddenly turned and ran away from the station. Officers went after him but lost him. However, tracked him to the back door of a home in the 1200 block of Dana Street. The homeowner told officers that their child was upstairs in the home.
Officers entered the house and went upstairs, clearing several rooms with open doors before finding one locked room. Upon entry, police said Jones was found hiding inside a closet and refused to get out. They were eventually forced to physically remove Jones from the closet. While he resisted, officers were able to gain control of him and put him in handcuffs following a brief struggle, the affidavit said.
The affidavit said Jones refused to stand or walk under his own power and was carried downstairs, being placed in a patrol vehicle. He was soon taken to the Craighead County Detention Center, where he is being held on a $50,000 cash/surety bond.
Jones’ next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 16.
