BACK TO SCHOOL GUIDE – Jonesboro Right Now – Jonesboro is home to Arkansas State University, a public university with numerous two-year, four-year, and graduate degree programs. JRN has compiled a list of resources for first-time students, as well as some helpful reminders for returning students.

Move-In Day Information

Move-In Day is Aug. 15 beginning at 8 a.m. On this day, residents will check into their dorms and receive room keys. Students must have a valid A-State ID either physically or on their phone to properly check in.

Students should also order a parking permit before arriving on campus if they plan to bring a vehicle. Click here to order one.

| Not bringing a vehicle? Jonesboro’s public transit service, GOJO, provides free rides to all A-State students with a valid ID. Click here for more route and schedule information.

Some students may have early move-in dates. Those who have been approved for this are asked to closely monitor their emails for further details.

When packing, be sure to label all boxes with your name, residence hall and room number to ensure on-site volunteers bring your items to the correct room. Students should consult with roommates beforehand to determine who will be bringing various shared items.

Students wanting to receive mail can purchase a P.O. Box at the post office on campus, which is on the north side of the Reng Student Union. It can also be reached at 870-932-7192.

For after-hours dorm assistance, the RA duty numbers are below. These numbers are to be called if a student is locked out of their dorm or if there is an emergency work order, such as no heat/air, a major leak, fire, etc. The duty numbers for each residence hall are below:

Dining

A-State has different dining options on campus, which accept credit/debit cards, Flex dollars, meal swipes, and meal plans. Cash is not accepted at any A-State dining locations.

Students can order ahead at different A-State dining locations with GrubHub. Click here to learn more. Meals can also be delivered directly to students with Kiwibot, provided the service is offered at that dining location. If eligible, the location will say “offers robot delivery” on the GrubHub app.

Student Resources

Tutoring services for 1000- and 2000-level classes, as well as writing and math, are all available. Sessions are offered both virtually and in-person, although making an appointment beforehand is usually required. Click here for more information on tutoring.

Students can also get career advice with Career Services, which offer advising, resume workshops, and even practice interviews. It also hosts job fairs and various networking events. Click here for more information.

In need of a checkup? The Student Health Center, located at 333B Red Wolf Blvd. (it’s next to the football stadium and in the same building as the St. Bernards First Care Clinic), is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Students must have active health insurance to be seen.

The Jonesboro Church Health Center and ARCare can offer reduced-cost services for those without insurance.

The Wilson Counseling Center on campus offers free, confidential mental health support. Appointments can be virtual or in-person. Before sessions can begin, students will need to complete an intake session. Click here for more information.

Textbook Brokers is the official bookstore of A-State. It is not on campus; it is located at 2106 E. Johnson Ave. and is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. It is closed on Sundays. Getting Connected

Getting to meet new classmates can be daunting for first-year students. However, there are several ways to meet new people, all throughout the college experience.

There are over 150 registered student organizations, covering everything from academics to different fields of study, and sporting activities. Click here for a full list, complete with the organization’s leadership contacts.

Those wanting to lead and serve their campus community can participate in different leadership organizations.

Student Activities Board plans events for the entire campus, while the Student Government Association allows participants to be the voice of the student body. During the first week of school, A-State will host Welcome Week, a week of community-building and connection events organized by the Student Activities Board. Welcome Week events have not yet been announced, but JRN will update this section once they have been.
