Jonesboro, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — July 28, 2025 — Jonesboro continues to deal with excessive heat, with an extreme heat warning in effect for most of this week.
According to the National Weather Service, an extreme heat warning will go into effect Monday, July 28, at noon and remain in effect until 6 a.m. Thursday, July 31.
“The beginning of this week will feature oppressive heat as heat indices soar above 110 degrees. We urge everyone to limit outdoor activity and have a plan to stay hydrated and cool,” the NWS said. “This week’s heatwave is going to have compound effects. Temperatures overnight will barely cool down below 80 degrees, which makes it more difficult to regulate your body’s temperature without access to AC.”

In Jonesboro, high temperatures will hover in the upper 90s, with lows in the mid-to-upper 70s. Skies are expected to be clear and sunny. On Tuesday, the heat index could be as high as 113 degrees.
The NWS forecasted a 20 percent chance of rain on Wednesday, and a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms mostly after 1 p.m. on Thursday. Rain chances decrease heading into the weekend, with a 20 percent chance of rain forecasted Friday.
This weekend, high temperatures will be in the mid-to-upper 80s, with lows in the upper 60s. Skies will be mostly sunny.

The City of Jonesboro has free cooling stations across the city. Jonesboro Economical Transit (JET) buses will provide free rides to anyone needing one of the cooling centers, as well as the Salvation Army of Jonesboro.

Those needing an overnight cooling shelter may stay at the Jonesboro Salvation Army shelter, located at 800 Cate Ave. JET will provide free rides to this location.
Those needing a ride must tell the driver which cooling station they wish to go to. JET buses are also air-conditioned.
Additional Tips:
To protect yourself from heat illnesses, drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms whenever possible, stay out of the sun, and check on friends and family. When outside, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothes, limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours and take action if you notice heatstroke/heat exhaustion symptoms.
