Jonesboro, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — July 9, 2025 — A Harrisburg woman accused of attempting to murder her then-12-year-old child was found guilty by a Craighead County jury.

In 2021, K8 News reported that Christin Leann Helms of Harrisburg was arrested after she purposely crashed her car into a tree on Highway 163 in Jonesboro in an attempt to kill herself and her child.

A jury found Helms guilty of criminal attempt to commit murder in the first degree on Tuesday, July 8, and fixed that sentence at 30 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections (ADC). She was also found guilty of endangering the welfare of a minor in the first degree and sentenced to six years. That sentence is to run consecutively with the 30-year sentence.

According to the sentencing order, Helms is to serve 432 months in the ADC, with 146 days of jail time credit.

She’s currently being held in the Craighead County Detention Center, awaiting transfer to the ADC.
