Craighead County, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — April 3, 2025 — The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a preliminary rating to the tornado that ripped through Bay and Lake City Wednesday night.
The NWS has initially rated the tornado as an EF-3 tornado, estimating peak winds at 150 mph. It added that damage surveys have been temporarily suspended for Thursday due to ongoing storms and concern for the safety of survey teams.
The NWS has not yet issued a preliminary rating for the Monette storm.
“The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the events and publication in NWS Storm Data,” the NWS said.
The Enhanced Fujita Scale, or EF Scale, classifies tornadoes into the following categories:
- EF-0: Peak winds 65 to 85 mph
- EF-1: Peak winds 86 to 110 mph
- EF-2: Peak winds 111 to 135 mph
- EF-3: Peak winds 136 to 165 mph
- EF-4: Peak winds 166 to 200 mph
- EF-5: Peak winds exceeding 200 mph
