Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Jan. 15, 2025 – A Jonesboro woman was given a $250,000 cash-only bond after officers found 345 fentanyl pills, 34 grams of fentanyl, and other drugs in her home, which is near a church and YMCA.
Jonesboro police officers obtained a search warrant on Tuesday to search a home on Kenwood Street, where they found a 39-year-old man sitting on a couch inside the entry. He was detained.
As officers began to search the home, they located the homeowner, 46-year-old Leola Brodie in her bathroom with the toilet running. There was an empty gallon-sized bag floating in the toilet. Officers field-tested the bag, which tested positive for meth.
After officers detained Brodie, they found a small bag containing 0.5 grams of suspected meth in her pocket. Officers searched more of the home, and they found a glass pipe and three grams of meth behind the couch cushions where the man had been sitting. They also found two grams of marijuana and a THC vape pen on a coffee table.
While searching Brodie’s bedroom, officers found 216 grams of meth bagged separately. They also found a digital scale, several plastic baggies used for packaging and a small package of THC lemon pepper seasoning, the probable cause affidavit said.
In the bathroom where officers first found Brodie, they found “several wet bags of illegal narcotics.” This included 345 M30 fentanyl pills in several baggies, 34 grams of fentanyl powder in two bags under the sink, and a large digital scale. Officers also found another baggie of powder packaged similarly to the other drugs, but testing showed it to be baby formula.
“The way it was packaged, as well as its location, it was found was consistent for using it as a counterfeit substance,” the probable cause affidavit said.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Brodie is the only adult living in the home, but her 5-year-old child also lives there. The home is within 1,000 feet of the Southwest Church of Christ, which has a daycare inside, and the YMCA.
Brodie was charged with the following:
- One count of trafficking of fentanyl
- One count of trafficking a controlled substance
- One count of offenses relating to records
- One count of possession of drug paraphernalia
- One count of possession with purpose to deliver, delivery, or manufacture of counterfeit substance
- One count of tampering with physical evidence
- One count of possession of a Schedule VI drug less than four ounces
She was given a $250,000 cash-only bond. If she makes bond, she must wear a GPS ankle monitor. The probable cause affidavit notes Brodie is a “danger to the public.”
The man was charged with one count of possession of meth or cocaine greater than two grams but less than 10 grams, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was given a $35,000 cash or surety bond.
Both have a court date of Feb. 28 at 8:30 a.m. and are being held in the Craighead County Detention Center.
