Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Jan. 10, 2025 – Jonesboro Economical Transporation (JET) announced it was closing at 2 p.m. today due to winter weather and road conditions.
Even though JET is closing early, this will not affect those needing transportation to the daytime and overnight warming shelters. The Jonesboro Police Department will be providing rides to the warming shelters.
To get transportation to a shelter, call JPD’s non-emergency phone number at (870) 935-5553, and JPD will make arrangements.
“We are committed to accommodating your transportation needs during this weather event,” a City of Jonesboro Facebook post read.

Capt. Charles Smith with the Salvation Army said the early closure did not affect those staying at its overnight warming shelter.
“Everybody stayed in today and the JET bus didn’t take anyone out,” Smith said. “We asked people to stay in today. Nobody left today, everybody’s safe, people have [eaten] lunch and they’re preparing dinner for tonight.”
Smith added that the Salvation Army’s emergency shelter, which holds 12 men and six women, is at capacity, and the warming shelter is currently holding around 25 people. It has 50 beds available.

Lee Wells, Director of Transit, said JET is closing early not just due to weather, but also to allow time for its drivers to get home safely before conditions deteriorate.
“We’ve been providing the service all day,” Wells said. “We’ve had limited ridership, even providing the free transportation. And while the trollies being out on route were one of the better choices because of the safety of those vehicles, our main concern is always safety.”
JET said it would post updates about Saturday’s routes and services “as soon as a decision is made,” in a Facebook post.
