Jerry Ray Bishop, born on March 30, 1954, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2024, at the age of 70. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Jerry leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love for his family, and an unwavering commitment to his faith.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Shelia Bishop; his sons, James Bishop and Jason Bishop (wife Julianna Bishop); his cherished grandchildren, Jude Bishop, Maddox Mummey, and Ella Mae Bishop. He is also survived by his brother, Earl Bishop, and his sister, Nina Stephens. Jerry’s family was the center of his world, and his love and care for them will remain a cherished memory for all who knew him.

A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Jerry served his country with honor and dedication. After his military service, he went on to become a master electrician, applying his strong work ethic and problem-solving skills to his craft. Known for his sharp mind and hands-on approach, he was the kind of man who could always be counted on to get the job done and do it right.

Jerry had a number of passions in life that brought him great joy. He loved spending time outdoors, especially fishing, and found freedom riding his motorcycle. He was also an avid reader of western novels by Louis L’Amour, finding adventure and wisdom in their pages. Jerry was quick with a joke or prank, always ready to bring a smile or laughter to those around him with his wit and playful spirit.

A man of strong faith, Jerry was an active member of Unity Baptist Church. He welcomed all with open arms, often greeting congregants with warmth and kindness. Over the years, he taught night classes and served as a yokeman, always willing to lend a hand wherever it was needed. His dedication to his church and its members was a testament to his generous and selfless nature.

Jerry Ray Bishop will be remembered not only for his hard work and commitment to his family, faith, and country, but also for the joy, humor, and love he brought into the lives of those around him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 12, from 10:00 a.m. until service time at Phillips Funeral Home. The memorial service for Jerry will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Home with Don Slatton, and Ron Pickney officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jerry’s honor to Unity Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
