Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – A Jonesboro couple was caught with over 20 pounds of methamphetamine Wednesday.

Officers with the Second Judicial District Drug Task Force were notified about a package shipped through a major carrier that contained 20.54 pounds of methamphetamine. The package, located at a Kentucky shipping center, was being shipped to a Jonesboro address.

Officers conducted a controlled delivery of the package to the address, which appeared vacant and was up for sale. Officers conducted covert surveillance when they saw 27-year-old Malik Cason and 37-year-old Veronica Scales walk to the home’s front door.

They inspected the package and took it to their car, after which they reportedly covered it up with items in the back of the car. The couple returned to their home, where they brought the package inside.

Officers arrested the couple for the methamphetamine. They were also found to have a loaded gun in the car. Officers then recovered the methamphetamine from Scales’s locked bedroom. Five children were also found at the residence.

Cason and Scales are charged with trafficking of a controlled substance and simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms. They were both given a court date of Nov. 25 at 8:30 a.m.

Scales was given a bond of $250,000 c/s, while Cason was given a bond of $150,000 cash-only. Due to the presence of minors, child endangerment charges may be added.
