Mr. Edward R. Nix of Fairfield Bay, formerly of West Memphis and Harrisburg, departed this life on Friday, September 27, 2024, at his home, at the age of 90.
He was born July 19, 1934, in Cherry Valley, the son of Johnny Clifford Nix and Ida Theresa Barnes Nix.
Edward joined the Air Force at the age of 17 and was shipped straight to Korea. He also served in Vietnam and worked with SAC on B52 Bombers. He retired after 21 years of service. Following the Air Force, he worked and retired as a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service. He loved football and played high school football at Harrisburg. He was a big supporter of the Dallas Cowboys, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Arkansas Razorbacks. He still enjoyed going to high school football games. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 52254 in West Memphis and a member of the APWU. He was a faithful member and deacon of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He loved working in the yard and was known to keep a pristine yard. He was an excellent chef and loved to cook. He was a big supporter of St. Jude. He was a quiet and reserved man but enjoyed fellowship and especially enjoyed spending time with family. He was a man that was faithful and loyal and full of integrity. He was loved by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Neva Nix in 2005, two brothers, baby boy Nix and Tommie Nix, and a grandson Juan Blanco.
He is survived by two daughters, Cindy Dunn and her husband Richard of Fairfield Bay, and Sandra Blanco and her husband John of San Antonio, TX, one son, David England and his wife Dana of Memphis, TN, seven grandchildren, Rachel, Taylor, Jennifer, David, Justin, Melissa and Tara, eleven great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday morning, October 6th, 9:00 a.m. at the Clinton Seventh Day Adventist Church in Clinton, AR and a graveside service will be held Sunday, 2:00 p.m., at the Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors. Pastor Ross Harris will officiate and Taylor Dunn will be the Eulogist. There will be no visitation. Gregg-Weston Funeral Home of Harrisburg has been entrusted with arrangements. In Lieu of flowers, family has requested donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
