Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Sept. 16, 2024 – The Bradbury Art Museum (BAM) is an art space at Arkansas State University that hosts exhibitions of all art disciplines.
A not-so-hidden gem, the Bradbury Art Museum holds unique shows throughout the year, with each one selectively chosen by BAM curators.
Open to the public since Sept. 12, the BAM turns heads with the striking colors and textures of their newest exhibition Contemporary Classic, which revisits many of art history’s greatest hits and reimagines them through more contemporary eyes.
Instead of the average bodice of a woman with a dull facial expression, visitors might see a woman with her pet, drinking champagne, laughing, and smiling. In an Andy Warhol homage, viewers will find an oil canvas of a man on a couch with a motorcycle helmet. This playful reworking of traditional art forms is what sets Contemporary Classic apart.
Contemporary Classic pieces are created by Carlos Gámex De Francisco, Ayamyaldo, Klaire Lockheart, Angela Fraleigh, and Vitus Shell. These artists are located all over the country.
In addition, the exhibitions Overture and Meaningful Disruption can be found in the side rooms of the museum.
Benry Fauna’s Overture shifts perspectives through the collaging, reshaping, and sculpting of portraits with different types of fabrics.
In Meaningful Disruption, artist Chantal Lesley engages in self-portraiture and video that challenges viewers to consider their preconceptions of women of color. Both of these exhibitions offer deep and meaningful insights that complement the main Contemporary Classic exhibition.
Madeline McMahan curated all pieces in these collections.
The Bradbury Art Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday 12-5 p.m. All three exhibitions run from September 12 – November 20. Free yoga classes are offered with this exhibition at 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month with Bethany Davis.
