Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – September 15, 2024 – The remnants of what was Category 2 Hurricane Francine moved into Northeast Arkansas on Thursday. Once the center of low pressure moved in the center has rambled in the same general area. Rotating counterclockwise and bringing round-after-round of rain.

As of 6:00pm Sunday the Automated Weather Observation Station (AWOS) at the Jonesboro Municipal Airport had measured 5.63 inches of rain. That total is representative of rainfall totals estimated by National Weather Service radar over the same time period.

The rain fell hard enough Thursday that there were reports of minor flooding in some areas. Since then, the rain has been intermittent and hasn’t fallen as fast.

The forecast calls for the rain to continue into the night diminishing on Monday as the moisture decreases and moves out of the area.

Agriculture interests have been most affected. Farmers are in the height of the rice and corn harvest with cotton and soybean harvest imminent.

The rain also hampered attendance during parts of this weekend’s 5th annual Local Fest in Downtown Jonesboro.
