Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Sept 4, 2024 – An incident involving a young child falling from a vehicle was reported on August 31 in Jonesboro.
According to JPD, the case, which initially raised concerns of child endangerment, has ultimately been classified as unfounded.
The incident took place when a 25-year-old mother was driving with her three children (ages 7, 5, and 3) in the back buckled into car seats and booster seats. They were on their way to Chuck E. Cheese when the children began playing and roughhousing in the back seat.
During the commotion, the child in the car seat reportedly became unbuckled, and the rear door of the vehicle unexpectedly opened. As a result, the child fell out of the moving vehicle and landed on the ground.
The mother immediately stopped the car, rushed to the child’s side, and transported him to a local hospital. Due to injuries to the child’s lower back and spine, he was subsequently airlifted to a Memphis hospital for further treatment.
The Arkansas Child Abuse Hotline was notified, and the case was reviewed by the Jonesboro Police Department. Despite initial concerns, the investigation concluded that the incident was a tragic accident rather than an instance of abuse or gross negligence. According to the officer’s narrative, all children were securely fastened in their seats, but the altercation between the children led to the safety harnesses becoming unlatched.
The case was ultimately marked as unfounded.
