Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Jan. 6, 2025 – The Salvation Army of Jonesboro announced it is opening its overnight warming shelter starting tonight at 4 p.m.
The shelter, located at 125 S. Fisher St., will be open as temperatures plunge below freezing this week.
To stay overnight, individuals must first check in at 800 Cate Ave. between 4 to 5 p.m. There are no reservations, and it is on a first-come, first-serve basis. There are 50 beds available. Checkout is after breakfast, which is at 7 a.m.
After checkout, the Jonesboro Economical Transit System (JETS) will transport those using the shelter to one of the day warming centers across the community at no cost. They will be taken back to the overnight shelter at 4 p.m. Find more information about the day warming centers here.
According to the City of Jonesboro, the overnight shelter will be available throughout the week, with additional hours to be considered if or when warranted. This includes Sundays.
In addition, the Salvation Army will serve a hot meal at 5:30 p.m. at the shelter for anyone needing it at no cost.
“We are thankful the city is partnering again with us to do the most good by showing love beyond Christmas as our community prepares for frigid temperatures,” a Facebook post from the Salvation Army said.
