Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – May 31,2024 – The new Parker Park swimming pool should open within the next two weeks, Jonesboro Parks and Recreation Director Danny Kapales said.
The pool will include a diving board and slide, as well as a shaded seating area along the side. It will also have a 1,500-square-foot restroom facility and pool office.
Plumbing work is almost finished, and the pouring of concrete is complete. The pool should be filled with water by the end of the day today, Kapales said. The office and restroom building are also nearing completion.
Construction began on the project last fall. He said wet weather and equipment issues delayed the opening of the pool.
Bailey Contractors was awarded the $2,917,999.89 contract for construction of the pool in September 2023.
Kapales said the northside of Jonesboro needs a pool because of the large number of children who live in the area.
He said swimming lessons and pool parties will also be offered at the pool.
Parker Park is located on North Church Street. This will be the second public pool for the city. The other is located at the former YMCA building on West Nettleton Avenue, now known as the Jonesboro Pool Center and Jonesboro Youth Center.
The cost to swim is $4 for ages 15 and younger. These must be accompanied by a people 18 or older. The cost for ages 16 and older is $6.
