Craighead County, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — May 27, 2025 — Lance Owens announced his intent to run for Division 1 in the 2nd Judicial District.

According to a news release, Owens worked as an attorney for over 35 years and is licensed to practice in Arkansas, Missouri and Tennessee. He’s represented clients in cases regarding family law, decedents’ estate and estate planning, personal injury, civil litigation, business law, creditors’ rights and Chapter 7 bankruptcy. He’s also the founder and managing partner of Ownes, Mixon Heller and Smith, P.A., also known as OMG Law Firm.

Prior to starting OMG Law Firm, Owens co-founded Marshall and Owens, P.A. in 1992. He was appointed to the position of Chapter 7 Panel Trustee in 2017 and continues to serve in that position, presiding over Chapter 7 bankruptcy filings in the Northern and Delta districts of Arkansas.

“I have spent the last decade of my career advocating for families and children in child custody matters. To further my passion for protecting children, I accepted a part-time position as Attorney Specialist with the Arkansas Department of Human Services, Office of Chief Counsel, in Crittenden County. I believe the variety of legal matters I have managed during my career uniquely qualifies me for this important office. I promise, if elected, I will treat everyone who comes before the court with the dignity and respect they deserve,” Owens said in a news release.

Owens graduated with a Juris Doctorate from the Bowen School of Law, Little Rock, in 1989. He received a BA in Psychology in 1986 from Harding University. He currently serves on the Membership Committee of BNI and is a Life Group Leader at Central Baptist Church in Jonesboro. He is a member of the Jonesboro Chamber of Commerce.

He is a past recipient of the Frank Lady Leadership Award and Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year. He has also served for many years as Chairman of the Financial Institutions Section of the Arkansas Bar Association and has served as Chairman of the Debtor/Creditor Bar Association. He is a past president of BNI and was a member of the Jonesboro University Rotary Club.

He was elected and served Jonesboro as a Justice of the Peace and voted by the quorum court members to serve as Vice Judge.

The Second Judicial District covers Clay, Craighead, Crittenden, Greene, Mississippi, and Poinsett Counties. Division 1 is currently occupied by Circuit Judge Pamela Honeycutt, who is not seeking re-election.

Primary elections will be held March 3, 2026.
