Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – July 12, 2024 – The Jonesboro Police Department Street Crimes Unit responded to an alert on Thursday involving a stolen vehicle.
While SCU officers were patrolling the area, they got an alert that a stolen vehicle had just driven past a License Plate Reader (LPR) in the area.
The License Plate Reader cameras are connected to a nationwide database. When a vehicle passes a camera that has a known status, officers get an alert. These statuses can include stolen vehicles, stolen license plates, missing persons, and several others.

SCU officers were alerted that a stolen vehicle had passed the LPR heading northbound. They were quickly able to locate the vehicle, which immediately “took off.” After a short distance, the driver hit a wooden fence, road sign, and parked vehicle, and both the driver and the passenger left the truck and fled on foot with the vehicle still in gear.
After a short foot pursuit with multiple officers involved, both subjects were apprehended. Alcohol and marijuana were located in the area, and the stolen vehicle was recovered and towed.
The suspects are described as 17-year-old and 15-year-old males.
