Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Nov. 7, 2024 – The director of the Craighead County/Jonesboro Public Library, Vanessa Adams, issued a statement Thursday morning regarding the results of the library millage.

The issue to increase the library’s budget to its original budget of two mills went before city voters in the general election. According to unofficial election results, 58.48% of voters voted against it, while 38.81% for the increase. The measure was put forward by the Committee to Restore Our Libraries in response to the budget first getting cut in the 2022 midterm election cycle.

Adams’s full statement is below:

“The Craighead County/Jonesboro Public Library is always grateful for its community. Regardless of circumstances, we will continue to serve and provide a safe space for every individual who walks through our doors. The support and encouragement from the community are deeply appreciated by both myself and the staff.”

“Our mission will never waver, and we promise to continue advocating for your right to education, equal access, exploration, service, and community. Libraries play a pivotal role in communities and continue to evolve to best serve them. Like many libraries across the nation, we cannot always predict what lies ahead. However, as long as our community is with us, we will be here.”

“Thank you to every individual in our community – yes, everyone! You are the reason we are here, and we are here to serve you always. The library will always serve you with the resources we have. Every decision we make will be thoughtful and with you in mind.”

“Our goal is to remain transparent and committed as we navigate these times. Thank you.”
