Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Sept 5, 2024 – Offices in the Craighead County Courthouse Annex will close early for construction on Friday, September 6.
Due to the scheduled construction of the building, all offices located in the County Courthouse Annex will close at noon on Friday and the building will remain closed for the remainder of the day, with no power supply available until Monday, according to a press release from the Craighead County Judge’s Office on Tuesday.
This temporary closure will affect the following county offices:
- Tax Assessor
- Tax Collector
- Judges’ Offices and Chambers
- Information Technology
- 2nd Judicial Courts and Offices
The closure is part of the ongoing Craighead County Annex Addition project aimed at expanding and enhancing the facilities.
According to Craighead County Judge Marvin Day on Wednesday the expansion is currently running on temporary power, so they will have to disconnect the power to tie the new building into the existing annex power.
“They said it should take about a day and a half,” he noted.
The press release also noted that the disruption will only impact staff and operations within the County Annex building. All other county offices and services not located in the Annex will remain open and operational during this period.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding as we work to improve our facilities,” it said.
For any urgent matters or further information, please contact the respective offices directly or visit Craighead County’s social media for updates.
Located at the corners of Madison Street and Washington Avenue, where the old Craighead County Jail used to stand, construction on the new addition began in 2023.
The new three-story building will include three new courtrooms and a tornado safe room that can accommodate up to 500 people.
Judge Day also noted that the safe room could be used as a fourth courtroom, if needed.
The project, which currently stands at around $15.8 million, is expected to be completed by February 2025.
