Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Jan. 8, 2025 – With snowy weather forecasted for the end of the week, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Jonesboro.

Previously, the NWS had a winter storm watch in effect. It was upgraded to a warning on Jan. 8 at 1:38 p.m. The warning goes into effect Thursday, Jan. 9 at 6 p.m. and runs until Saturday, Jan. 11 at 6 a.m.

The NWS forecasted one to two inches of snow to accumulate Thursday night, and two to four inches on Friday.

“Impacts from this system should not be taken lightly,” the NWS said. “Driving conditions will be dangerous or at times, impossible. This is the kind of heavy snow that can cause widespread closures and disruptions to infrastructure. Even outside the locations of heaviest snow, moderate impacts are expected, which still means driving conditions will be quite hazardous.”

After the snow moves out, the NWS said cold temperatures will remain, with temperatures expected to barely rise above freezing. Clear skies are expected this weekend.

“Any snow left untreated on residential roads will further compact into an icy mess for many days after the snowfall has ended. Start making contingency plans for this weekend. If this snowfall lives up to its potential (which it’s looking like it will), you will not want to be out driving,” the NWS said.
