The Jonesboro Walgreens at 108 E. Highland Drive fell victim to a phone scam for $2,700 on Saturday night, according to the Jonesboro police.

The store received a call claiming to be from “Asset Protection” saying there were a lot of fraudulent charges coming from the store, a police report said. The employee who answered the phone was asked for his cell phone number so they could send him barcodes to scan, so they could look closer at charges being made.

The employee told police he scanned the items he was told to and then the caller asked him about money on gift cards. That’s when the employee realized it was a scam and hung up.

The employee informed his manager and police were notified.
