Jonesboro- Virginia Yvonne Johnson, 94, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at NEA Baptist Hospital.

She was born July 27, 1929 on Running Water Farm Community near Walnut Ridge. From 1944 until 1959 she worked as a switchboard operator at Southwest Bell Telephone Company. She was a member of the Central Baptist Church since 1947 and was a faithful choir member. Family, her faith and her church were most important to her. She and her husband owned Jonesboro Lock and Key from 1947 until 1983 where she was active in operating the business with her husband.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-three years, Bill Johnson; father, Sidney Hudson; mother, Mable Davis; step-father, Ben Davis and three sisters and three brothers.

She is survived by her children, Dr. Steve Johnson of Nashville, TN and Jill Rainwater (Bill Jr.) of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Riley Rainwater, Alexa Rainwater Davis (Brock), Hank Johnson, Olivia Johnson and Eva Johnson and a great-grandchild, Tatum Hoover-Johnson and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Miles II officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.

The family will received friends from 1:00 p.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Ray Hall, Dr. Randy Woodruff, Kenny Gibson, Anthony Blankenship, Jim Brannon, Joe Brannon, John Stanley and Dr. Steve Woodruff.
