Verna Owens of Trumann, departed this life on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, AR at the age of 87 years, 10 months and 26 days. She was born January 14, 1937 to the late Willard and Earlene West Newell and lived most of her lifetime in Trumann. She was a member of Genesis Pentecostal Church.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Arvil Smith and Roy Owens; one son, Tommy J. Smith; one daughter Jackie Lou McCoy; three brothers, Nathan, James, and Buford Newell. Survivors include one son, Billy Smith of Trumann; son-in-law Cliff McCoy of Trumann; three brothers, Charles (Janie) Newell of Chicago, IL, H.D. Newell and Hollis (Diane) Newell both of Alabama; one grandson, Craig (Sandra) McCoy of Jonesboro, two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home of Trumann.
Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Potters Cemetery in Lepanto. Online guest book can be signed at www.thompsonfuneralhome.net.
