Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Oct. 15, 2024 – The Jonesboro UAMS Centers on Aging Northeast is taking donations of new blankets and socks for the upcoming holiday season during their Blanket and Sock Drive.
Kaitlyn Weathers, UAMS Centers on Aging Northeast community health worker, said on Tuesday that these donations will be distributed to various local senior centers, nursing homes, and senior living centers around the area.
UAMS Centers on Aging Northeast is a non-profit organization that provides services to 15 different counties across Northeast Arkansas, including Craighead, Greene, Mississippi, Clay, Cross, Sharp, Fulton, Randolph, Lawerence, Independence, Poinsett, Woodruff, Cleburne, Jackson, and White Counties.
“We do different things with caregivers, exercise programs for senior citizens, and educational programs to teach aging Arkansans how to age healthily. We also do a lot of work with Alzheimer’s and dementia education,” Weathers explained, noting that the blanket and sock drive was one of the projects that they are doing right now.
“We are aiming to provide new blankets and socks to at least three different counties in Northeast Arkansas,” she said. “Our three counties we’re aiming for are Greene, Craighead, and Mississippi. We are trying to spread enough awareness about this project, so we can provide as many blankets and socks as possible, maybe even reach more counties.”
The drive, which started at the end of September and will be going on until Nov. 18 with the hopes of getting all supplies passed out before Christmas.

Weathers added that they are not allowed to take any cash donations, only new blankets and socks.
“I know some people will want to just donate money, but since we are a non-profit, we cannot accept any type of money donation,” she explained.
