Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – Two Jonesboro men face up to life in prison after police said they held a man at gunpoint, stole his cash, and took his vehicle.

On April 14, Jonesboro police responded to a report of a carjacking. The victim stated he was robbed by two men wearing ski masks and armed with pistols.

According to the probable cause affidavits, one of the suspects patted the victim down while the other stole cash from his pants. The victim managed to flee the scene on foot, leaving his vehicle behind with his phone, keys, wallet, and credit cards still inside.

Shortly after, the victim used a tracking app to locate his phone and relayed the pinging locations to dispatch. While officers did not immediately spot the victim’s stolen vehicle at those spots, they did find a black Dodge Charger matching the phone’s location.

Officers stopped the Charger and conducted a K-9 sniff, which yielded a positive alert. Inside the vehicle, police found 21-year-old Averyon Markise Sanders and 19-year-old Nicky Jay Evans. Officers also recovered the victim’s phone, ski masks, and the pistols.

The two men were taken to the police department for questioning. During the interview, one of the suspects admitted to robbing the victim with the pistols but denied stealing his vehicle. However, later that day, Arkansas State Police found the victim’s car hidden in a wooded area near where Sanders and Evans were arrested.

The next day, the two men appeared before District Judge David Boling. He found probable cause to charge both Sanders and Evans with the following:

  • Aggravated robbery (Class Y felony)
  • Theft of a vehicle valued at less than $25,000 but greater than $5,000 (Class C felony)
  • Theft of property, credit/debit cards (Class D felony)
  • Theft $1,000 or less – all others (Class A misdemeanor)

Both men are being held on $150,000 cash/surety bonds. They are scheduled for arraignment on May 18. In addition to a maximum sentence of life in prison, they face fines of up to $22,500 if convicted of all charges.
