Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Aug 27, 2024 – Over the weekend, two local men were arrested for domestic violence in unrelated incidents.
Michael Sorg, 47, of Jonesboro, was arrested on Friday when Jonesboro Police Officers responded to a disturbance in progress after being informed that a male and female were arguing in the parking area of an apartment complex on Sybel Cove in Jonesboro.
After separating the pair for their safety, the victim stated that she and Sorg were dating and both resided at the address.
She alleged that she had told him to gather his belongings and leave the residence because of his continuing drug use, at which point Sorg became angry and lunged at her, attempting to grab her by the throat and stating, “I will kill you”.
She also told police that Sorg pushed her and made motions as if to strike her and, in fear for her life she grabbed a kitchen knife and wielded it in self-defense, causing Sorg to leave her alone.
Officers took Sorg into custody without incident, charging him with terroristic threatening in the first degree for threatening serious physical injury or death, which is a class D felony, and assault on a family or household member in the second degree, a class B misdemeanor.
Sorg’s bond was set at $20,000 c/s with GPS ankle monitor.
If convicted, he could face up to a $10,000 fine and up to six years for the felony alone.
In addition, a Brookland man was arrested on Saturday at his residence in Jonesboro.
According to the probable cause affidavit, officers responded to a domestic violence incident on Saturday morning in Jonesboro.
Upon arrival, the victim told the officers that her boyfriend had hit her on the leg with an extension cord, hit her in the mouth, and kicked her in the ribs.
She also stated that the man had taken her phone two days before, so she was unable to contact anybody to come get her and she did not have a vehicle. She eventually was able to grab his truck keys and drove to her brother’s house where she contacted dispatch.
After speaking with the victim, the officers went to the man’s address. After a brief standoff, he complied and was arrested.
The man was then charged with domestic battery in the third degree and theft by receiving stolen property greater than $1,000 and less than $5000, a class D felony.
On Monday, Craighead County District Court Judge David Boling set the man’s bond at $10,000 c/s.
If convicted, he could face up to a $10,000 fine and up to six years.
