Jonesboro, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – The Craighead County Sheriff’s Office has released new details regarding a recent multi-agency crackdown that led to the arrest of 20 registered sex offenders for compliance violations.
Dubbed “Operation Sentinel,” the three-day sweep was launched on Sept. 22 with the primary goal of ensuring sex offenders residing in the county were adhering to all registry requirements and not committing new offenses.
The department noted that a “sentinel” is defined as a guard, lookout, or someone stationed to keep watch and prevent attacks.

The initiative was a collaborative effort involving Craighead County deputies, the Jonesboro Police Department, Arkansas Probation and Parole, and Homeland Security. Over the course of the operation, law enforcement officers made contact with 85 registered sex offenders living within Craighead County.
Ultimately, 20 of those individuals were found to be out of compliance with their registry requirements and were arrested for Failure to Register.
JRN reported that 19 of those suspects had probable cause hearings last Wednesday and last Friday.
The sheriff’s office highlighted the leadership of Sgt. Mandi Smyth, who planned, coordinated, and executed the logistics of the sweep. By ensuring personnel and resources were properly organized across multiple agencies, the department said she made the operation a “huge success.”
In a statement addressing the recent wave of arrests, the department emphasized its commitment to protecting local youth: “The Craighead County Sheriff’s Office is very proud to have people on our team that cares about the safety of children in our community and work diligently to keep offenders in compliance.”
