Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – The Foundation of Arts (FOA) in Jonesboro has announced The Foreigner is coming to the FOA Stage, Too, in late January.
The two-act comedy play features an introvert, Charlie, as he joins a friend at a remote southern lodge in rural George in search of peace and quiet. Hilarity ensues when Charlie decides, after the playful prompting of his friend, to act like he’s from another country.
“It is a straight play that was written in the ’80s by a man named Larry Shue,” explained Meridith Pierce, marketing manager at FOA. (A straight play refers to a non-musical performance.) “He’s trying to pretend he’s from some exotic, non-English speaking country while he’s there to avoid having to speak to anyone because he didn’t want to have any social interactions.”
She added it was, “a trick played on him by his friend, that’s how he ended up pretending. It was his friend’s idea.”
As Charlie leans into playing this foreign character, the other people staying at the lodge become very interested in him. “They are in rural Georgia and think that this is the best, most exciting thing that’s ever happened at their lodge,” said Pierce. “They’re wanting to have all the interactions with him, and he’s like, ‘Please, I just don’t want any attention.’ He finds himself hearing things he shouldn’t be overhearing.”
She added, “The whole thing is just over the top.”
The Foreigner will be featured in the Stage Too venue which is a smaller, more intimate black box theater.
“It’s quite a different experience than going to the Forum,” said Pierce. “We love those shows too but this gives people something a little bit more unique, [an] intimate experience.”
There will be food and beverage options available for purchase at the play. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with all shows beginning at 7:30 p.m.
