Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Nov. 18, 2024 – Thanksgiving is almost here, and the Jonesboro community is hosting numerous events for the holiday. Here is a list of upcoming Turkey Day events.
Miracle Kids’ Thanksgiving Food Drive:
This event will continue through Nov. 21 as it collects food items to prepare Thanksgiving baskets for families in need.
According to a post on the Miracle Kids Success Academy Facebook page, they are still in need of items such as canned yams, marshmallows, cream of mushroom, cream of celery, chicken broth, pies, bread rolls, turkey and ham. Donations can be dropped off at the Miracle Kids Business Office at 3127 Southwest Dr. for non-perishables and Miracle Kids Trumann at 1005 Balcom Lane in Trumann for perishables and non-perishables. Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway:
The Warrior Center, a local nonprofit will hold its first turkey giveaway on Nov. 23 at 10 a.m. on the right side of the Bill’s Cost-Plus Supermarket parking lot at 200 E. Johnson Ave. This giveaway is for one free turkey per family. Families must provide a current utility bill to verify residence.
Jonesboro’s Best Kid’s Thanksgiving Party:
This event will be Nov. 23, at the Jonesboro’s Best After School & Summer Camp at 2801 S. Caraway Rd. It will feature crafts, games and more. There is also an optional pizza party as well. Call 870-761-0861 for more information or to sign up.
DAV Turkey Trot 5K:
Hosted by the Jonesboro Disabled American Veteran (DAV), Chapter 26, the race will take place Thanksgiving Day to raise funds to provide no-cost transportation for veterans to and from VA clinics in Memphis and Little Rock. The race will begin at the Lt. Col. Frederick C. Turner Jr. Military Science Building on the Arkansas State University campus. Registration begins at 6:00 a.m., and the race kicks off at 7:00 a.m.
Gearhead Outfitters’ (GHO) Turkey Trot 2024:
This race will also be held on Thanksgiving Day at Craighead Forest Park, access six. This family-friendly event is free for all participants and offers the option to walk or run on trails or pavement. The trot begins at 9 a.m., and donations will be accepted to benefit the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas.
Jonesboro Community Thanksgiving Meal:
Also on Thanksgiving Day, residents can enjoy the annual Jonesboro Community Thanksgiving Meal, will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon, or until food is gone, at the St. Bernards Auditorium, 505 E Washington Ave. Volunteers should arrive by 9-9:30 a.m.
This free meal has been a tradition for many Jonesboro families for over 20 years. If you would like to donate a dessert, non-refrigerated desserts in disposable containers can be dropped off on Nov. 27 from 1-5 p.m. at the St. Bernards Auditorium.
To pre-order for delivery, contact the First Methodist Church at 870-790-0624 through Nov. 26 during normal business hours, or order online here. (No online orders will be accepted past 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 26.)
There is a limit of up to six meals per family/address, however, if you need more meals, email jonesborocommunitythanksgiving@gmail.com. Deliveries are within Jonesboro city limits only. Thanksgiving Day orders must be called in from 8-10 a.m. at 870-336-2358. Meals will be on a first come first serve basis.
