Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – A man is being held on a $5 million cash/surety bond after being connected to a Jonesboro Super 8 Motel shooting Tuesday night that left one person dead.
District Judge David Boling found probable cause Jan. 9 to charge 18-year-old Eugene Whitelow Jackson, of Memphis, TN, with first-degree murder (homicide), a class Y felony.
According to the affidavit, on Jan. 6, Jonesboro police officers responded to the motel on South Caraway Road for a shooting. They found the victim with a gunshot wound to the back when they arrived.
While securing the scene, officers saw two subjects, Jackson and a juvenile, leaving the area. They stopped and detained both. During a frisk of Jackson, officers found a pistol on him. Both subjects were taken to the Jonesboro Police Department for further investigation.
According to the affidavit, during the interview, Jackson and the juvenile admitted to meeting the victim in the parking lot at the rear of the business to make a drug transaction. Jackson told police during that time, he shot the victim.
Police said the victim was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Along with the $5 million bond, Jackson will have to wear a GPS ankle monitor upon release, and he must not consume any alcohol or possess any weapons.
Jackson’s next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 27.
