Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – June 17, 2024 – A number of people stayed in the air conditioning this weekend at local grocery stores. Unfortunately, when it was time to leave, they skipped the cash register. According to almost a dozen different police reports between Friday and Sunday, folks involved were all taking small, inexpensive things…nobody was trying their hand at big stuff.
The Bold and Simple Boutique on Stadium lost several clothing items and accessories, and the Gee Street Market had a 5-pack of Pineapple Ice vapes disappear from the front counter.
Kroger Marketplace had a couple of shoplifting incidents, too, but Walmart dealt with the brunt of the illegal activity – both at the Highland Drive and Parker Road locations. And, at least this weekend, the demographic of the thieves skewed a little older. Minors were a part of a couple of the incidents, but the majority involved people old enough to know better.
At the Parker Road store, a couple in their 30’s were spotted taking some clothing items. Other reports featured a 42-year-old woman, a 48-year-old man and a 63-year-old man.
The Highland Drive Walmart holds the weekend record for the oldest shoplifter…a 74-year-old man.
A 43-year-old man even got crafty by putting toothbrush holder labels on more expensive items and scanning those instead.
