Jonesboro, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — March 31, 2025 — The Craighead County Historical Society (CCHS) will have its quarterly meeting in April with the theme “Elvis in Craighead County.”

The meeting will be April 8 at 7 p.m., in the Fellowship Hall of Jonesboro’s First Baptist Church, 700 S. Union St. The entrance is through the double glass doors.

Music icon Elvis Presley performed in the 1950s at the Jonesboro Community Center twice, then at the Nettleton High School gymnasium and then later at the Bono High School gymnasium.

Betty Craft Klinke of Memphis will be the special speaker for the April meeting.

“She was very instrumental in getting Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, and Carl Perkins to come to Bono, Arkansas for a ‘Sock Hop’ concert. She was a 15-year-old who brought Elvis to her school to make money for the Bono class of 1957, who wanted to go to Florida for their graduation trip,” a news release from the CCHS said.

Klinke graduated from Bono High School in 1957. She attended Arkansas State University and is an interior decorator by trade.

In 2025, the CCHS has meetings scheduled on the following dates: April 8, July 8 and Oct. 14.
