Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Feb. 17, 2025 – With frigid temperatures and expected snow in Northeast Arkansas, the city’s daytime warming centers and the Salvation Army’s overnight shelter will be open to help those in need.

According to Salvation Army Capt. Charles Smith, the shelter will operate until the temperature gets back above 32°F. A City of Jonesboro Facebook post on Tuesday said the overnight shelter will be open until Sunday, Feb. 23, with additional hours to be considered if needed.

The shelter has 50 beds available. Those wishing to stay need to check in from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 800 Cate Ave. Checkout is immediately following breakfast, which is served at 7 a.m.

There are no reservations, and it is on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition, the Salvation Army will provide a free hot meal daily at 5:30 p.m. for anyone who needs one.

“We are very grateful that the city has stepped up to help us again,” Smith said.

Community Engagement and Marketing Coordinator for the City of Jonesboro Lynette Hirsch said the city partners with the Salvation Army for the overnight shelter, which anyone can go to.

She also noted that the City’s JET buses are providing free transportation to the shelter, as well as the city’s warming centers when requested, which will open back up Feb. 18, as all city offices are closed today for Presidents’ Day. Riders must notify the driver and plan accordingly.

A list of warming centers across Jonesboro, and their hours, include:

  • Earl Bell Community Center, 1212 S. Church St., will be open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Closed Sundays.
  • Allen Park Community Center, 3609 Race St., will be open from 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Closed Sundays.
  • Jonesboro Youth Community Center, 1421 W. Nettleton Ave. will be open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Closed Sundays.
  • Parker Park Community Center, 1506 N. Church St., will be open from 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Closed Sundays.
