Rodney Thomas Mahan of Dalton passed peacefully at home on April 11, 2024, at the age of 67.  Rodney was born June 28, 1956 in Topeka, KS to Edwin and Thelma Mahan.  The family moved to Randolph County in 1968. He married his loving wife Judy on August 9, 1975. He worked as a towboater, operated heavy equipment, and ran a bulldozer for several years.  He and Judy owned and operated Mahan’s Dalton Store from 1981 to the early 1990s. He enjoyed the Eleven Point River because of all it had to offer.   Most notably recreational time with the family including boat riding, fishing, and gigging.  Rodney was also known to be quite the acrobat when a rope swing was involved.  He enjoyed his cows that he never referred to as “cattle” because he treated them more like pets. Rodney was a family man who had eyes for no one else but his beautiful wife Judy.  His three children were his life, but the grandkids ruled his world.  He never missed any event they were involved in and never ever missed a ballgame. He was a master of quick-wit and harmless pranks who enjoyed a good laugh as well as making others laugh.  Much like his mother, he was an unfiltered man. If he thought it, he said it. He will always be remembered by his famous one liners, silly songs, and hilarious sayings. Rodney was diagnosed with CIDP, a rare autoimmune disease in the Spring of 2021 that greatly affected his mobility.  He never got discouraged, was a pleasure to take care of, and was everyone’s favorite patient.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Darrell Mahan, Michael Mahan, and Carl Mahan and a sister Barbara Butcher. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy Mahan of the home.  A daughter Heather (Gene) Hart, 2 sons Heath (Priscilla) Mahan and Hesston (Amanda) Mahan all of Dalton.  Grandchildren:  Madelyn Hart, Mason Hart, Adrienne Mahan, Easton Mahan, Ollie Mahan, Kaydan Mahan, Koby Mahan and Jaxon Mahan.  Sister, Donna Brown and sister-in-law Kay Mahan of Dalton, and loving cousin Robert Jackson of Piggot, AR .  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Memorial Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Monday April 15, 2024, in the McNabb Funeral Home Chapel.  Cremation has been chosen as final disposition.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Paragould Children’s Home.
