Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Aug 22, 2024 – Jonesboro police recently responded to a residential burglary in progress on West Matthews.

The owner of the home had recently passed away and his Ring camera went to his daughter’s phone. She got an alert that someone was on her dad’s property. When she looked at the camera, she saw the suspect, Benny Leija, trying to break into vehicles in the driveway.

Leija then walked to the front door, looked into the camera, yanked it off of the wall and then kicked in the front door. The family is still trying to figure out all that was taken. Leija left before officers arrived.

Officers with the Street Crimes Unit found Leija later and tried to take him into custody. When they approached him, he fled on foot, but they quickly caught up with him. He was booked with the original charge of Residential Burglary and the new charge of Fleeing.

His bond was set at $150,000.
