Jonesboro, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — March 21, 2025 — Join Arkansas State University students and local artisans for a day of merriment and entertainment at the first-ever Mohegan Renaissance Market.
Hosted by the Red Wolf Renaissance Society, the free public event takes place April 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Judd Hill Farmers’ Market, located at 3350 Aggie Rd. The fair is named after Mohegan, one of three red wolf statues on the A-State campus. Mohegan is in the Reng Student Union.
Red Wolf Renaissance Society president Lauren Hopkins said the fair aims to raise awareness for the conservation of the American red wolf.
“At A-State, we love Howl, we love Scarlet. We obviously are the Red Wolves. We cheer, and we howl for them,” she said. “However, there should be more conversation about what’s going on with red wolves in the wild. They can come to [the Mohegan Renaissance Market], and have fun, eat a turkey leg, and learn something about the red wolves.”
The event is completely run by A-State students. Hopkins noted a red wolf-themed game called “Red Wolf Endangered.”
“It’s a scenario game, where you really get in the mind of a conservationist and all the issues that they’re facing, just trying to make sure the species can proliferate,” she said.
Red wolves are a critically endangered species, with an estimated 17-20 left in the wild. Around 250 to 300 live in captivity, although there is no captive population in Arkansas. A-State is working to build a red wolf conservation center, although it is still working to acquire funding for the project.
Hopkins also talked a little about the Renaissance-inspired marketplace, which will feature a variety of local artisans, vendors, and food trucks. Booth space is free for everyone.
It will feature performances and entertainment, including Sawyer Harris as “Mermaid Mossy”, Brittany Hays as “Mermaid Jupiter”, the Funtime Channel Performing Arts Color Guard, led by Ronnie Tindel, “The Merry Minstrels” directed by Stephanie Hoeckley and the A-State Chess Club.
Hopkins also added that they are looking for student volunteers to act as cast during the event.
