Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Feb. 10, 2025 – A registered sex offender has been accused of living too close to a Jonesboro school.
While standing before Judge David Boling, 61-year-old Jimmie Jones was charged with one count of failing to comply with reporting requirements – registered offender living near school/daycare.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Jones was convicted of sexual indecency with a minor in February 2021 and registered as a sex offender in April 2021. He was assessed by the Sex Offender Community Notification Assessment (SOCNA) in July 2021 and was assigned a risk level of three (high risk).
In Arkansas, a registered sex offender with a risk level of three or four cannot live within 2,000 feet of any public or private school, daycare or park. When Jones initially registered with the Jonesboro Police Department, he provided an address of 2046 Phillips Drive, Room 205.
On Feb. 2, Jones left a voicemail to JPD, stating he’d moved to 402 S. Gee St., according to the affidavit. This address is 1,004 feet west of Microsociety Magnet School.
Jones was given a $75,000 cash or surety bond and a court date of March 20 at 8:30 a.m. He’s being held in the Craighead County Detention Center.
